Walk, Talk, Read — New Story Book Trail Coming

An unusual way to read — while you walk.

The Adair county library is creating a Story Book Trail at Thousand Hills State Park. Every 150 feet or so, giant pages from a book are on display so that you can read as you stroll.

Books are stretched over half a mile and they will be changed out monthly. Ribbon cutting for Story Book Trail is April 14th.

One Covid Case In Macon County A Re-infection

Macon county is not seeing alot of covid-19 at the moment.

During the week of March 23- March 29, only one new case. That’s compared to four last week, and 32 the week before that.

The one new case is an elderly person, in the hospital, who caught the virus a second time — even though vaccinated.

Covid Cases Are Few Locally

The Feds have approved a second covid-booster shot for those 50 and older. The approval yesterday.

Meantime, Macon county’s health department has a vaccine clinic this Thursday where you can receive Moderna, Pfizer and J&J vaccines. Adults can also get the vax in Adair county on Tuesday afternoons during April at the health department.

As for Covid cases, few reported locally. In Adair county, just seven people reported with the virus in the past seve days. Two of the seven had been vaccinated.

Adair Ambulance Service Wins Accreditation Again

An achievement of note for the Adair County Ambulance District. They have again been accredited by the national group that sets high standards of excellence for ambulance services. Adair county first won accreditation back in 2019 and the service was re-certified recently after an extensive review process.

Adair county is one of only three ambulance services in the state that is accredited.

Libary Opens For Activities Again

Back to in-person bingo — and arts and crafts.

And the kids can stop by for storytime. The Adair County Public Library will finally get past the pandemic on April 1st by again starting activities inside the library that have been on hold — or that have been virtual — for two years.

Congressional Voting Districts Close To Approval

The State Senate has finally approved a new map with congressional districts, so candidates can start filing Tuesday, if the House gives the final approval.

Republican senators wanted to change the maps in Kansas City which is heavily democratic. But the plan approved did not do that.

So with the new maps, it’s thought Republicans will still hold six of the state’s eight seats in Congress.

Lowered Flags To Honor Missouri Firefighter

Flags will be at half-staff at fire stations around MIssouri today. The governor ordered the move to honor 35 year old Dustin Brandhorst. He died answering a call in Fair Grove, when the fire struck he was driving overturned.

Battling A Water Weed

No boating or fishing or swimming on Forest Lake at Thousand Hills Park for three days next month.

The lake will be closed for another round of treatment to stop curly leaf pondweed. The dates are April 19th through the 21st.

Also during those days, the city will not draw drinking water from Forest Lake, instead taking water from Hazel Creek Lake.

Teachers Could Be Forced To Put Lesson Plans Online

Tracking what your kids are taught at school. A bill in the state House would require teachers to post their lesson plans online at least twice a year, so that anyone can see them.

State Teachers group is against it, saying it will stress teachers out by giving them more work. But supporters say it will let parents know what’s happening in classrooms — especially in such things a sex education and history lessons.

Truman Leader Leaving For Illinois Job

A new job for a local university leader.
