Valentine’s Day is just over a month away. Kirksville Parks and Recreation has something new for kids this year.
It’s called Build a Buddy.

For 15 bucks you get a kit that has everything you need to build a stuffed buddy. It has a character that you stuff with the soft material included. Plus, it has a mini-heart and a birth certificate.

Pick-up for Build A Buddy kits runs February 7th to the 14th at the Kirksville Aquatic Center. You can register online at parks.kirksvillecity.com, or reserve one by going in-person to register at the Kirksville Aquatic Center.

Another 43 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Wednesday by the Adair County Health Department. That comes after 55 cases on Tuesday — meaning 98 cases confirmed in just two days. The youngest reported on Wednesday — a couple of one-year-olds.

Four cases are in the K-12 schools and 12 of the Wednesday cases — or 28% — had been vaccinated. A vax clinic for kids is being held Thursday afternoon at the health department.

In Macon county in the past week, covid cases also jumped. 111 new cases reported, compared to 35 the previous week

A Muslim woman is suing a Missouri gun shop and firing range. Her lawsuit says that she was not allowed to use the shooting range unless she removed her head covering known as a hijab. \

Rania Barakat says she went to the store last year — Frontier Justice in Lee’s Summit. The store issued a statement saying the dress code is designed to keep the gun range customers safe, and that it not discriminatory.

The Adair County Health Department reports 55 new cases of covid-19 on Tuesday.

Eight of the cases in local schools. And 18 cases in people already vaxed. The youngest person in the latest report, a 2 year old girl.

The health department has adult COVID vaccine clinics at the every Tuesaday this month. And you can get your kids vaccinated each Thursday from 3-5 at the health department.

Two more deaths from covid-19 in Adair county. That brings the total who have died in the pandemic to 48.

The latest deaths, a 66 year old woman and a 48 year old man. Neither had been vaccinated. And, 58 new cases have been reported in the county since last Thursday.

Covid is spreading rapidly, and in St. Louis County they hit a record high. The seven-day average of new cases there is up to nearly 17-hundred. That is the highest it’s been since March of last year.

An arrest in a Kirksville shooting last week that killed two and wounded two. One of those killed was an 18 month old child.

Police say that 52 year old Ray Romero was arrested yesterday at home in Kirksville. But, still on the run, is a second suspect, Anquan Glover, who is said to be armed and dangerous.

The shootings happened at an apartment on Dodson street. Besides the child, a 22 year old man was killed. While an 18 year old woman and another man were wounded.

Police haven’t talked about a motive in the killings. But it was not a random crime.

Kirksville police say two of the four people who were shot last week at an apartment on Dodson have died. And one of the victims is an 18 month old child.

Also killed, 22 year old Braxton Cottrill. Two others wounded, a man and woman, their current conditions not known.

Police still looking for the suspect. He is identified as 22 year old Anquan Glover. They say this was a targeted attack, but no motive given.

Covid update: the Macon county health department says they have not seen the Omicron strain of the virus yet. They’re basing that on an analysis of sewage — that looks for signs of covid-19. So far, they haven’t found Omicron in wastewater.

And, a bit of good news, cases of the virus in Macon county have come down recently.

The City of Kirksville is declaring a Snow Emergency due to snow and ice that is expected just after we ring in the new year tonight.

So, all vehicles parked on designated Snow Emergency Routes, including City streets in the Downtown, must be moved within two hours, or by 3:00 am.

Some forecasts are predicting 8 to 12 inches of snow with wind chills of minus-20 degrees.

Several people were shot Thursday just before noon on West Dodson in Kirksville. Police said there were multiple victims, but did not say how many had been shot.

The victms knew the shooter, telling police he is Anquan Glover. Now police are trying to find him.

He may be driving an organge truck. Police say they pinged his cell phone and it showed he was in the Brookfield area. But Glover then turned his phone off. Anquan Eugene Glover is black, 5’11” tall, 145 lbs.

Police said he is armed and dangerous.
