Adair County Offices Are Moving

Some Adair county offices are moving because of construction at the courthouse.

The Treasurer and the County Clerk will set-up shop at 311 North Elson. The Assessor, Collector and Recorder are moving to 310 North Elson. Court cases will continue to be heard at the courthouse until Nov. 19, then court will be in session on North Industrial Road.

Vaccine Clinic In Kirksville; The State Ready To Vax Kids

Covid count: since Monday 11 new cases in Adair county. So, 29 cases are active at the moment. Most of the new cases are in females…ages 10 to 85. A 10 year old boy also has it. Another covid clinic today in Kirksville at the Health department from 1 to 3:30 for those getting a second Pfizer shot or a booster. Call the health dept to register.

Missouri has 116,100 initial doses of Pfizer’s pediatric vaccine for those ages 5-11. That’s enough for about 22% of the state’s than 533,000 youngsters. Surveys show most parents aren’t going to be in a hurry to vax their kids. Many have concerns about the vaccines safety for their children. The CDC insists it is safe.

State Tries To Repair Computer Breach

The state has hired a company to try to repair a data breach that was found by a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Distpatch. It’s a problem that may have exposed the social security numbers of 100-thousand teachers in the state. The company will work on improving computer security and provide all the teachers with credit monitoring. Total cost about $4.5 million. The governor has accused the reporter who broke the story of computer hacking, and the state patrol is looking into that.

A Plan To Fill Council Vacancies

A plan approved to fill vacancies on Kirksville city council. The council has set-up a process for a new council member to be appointed, when a seat comes open unexpectedly. The process has several steps: people interested in filling a vacancy on council can apply. Then, council will pick as many as three finalists. Those who make the final cut will address council and the public, then council will choose one to serve until the next election

Adair Covid Count. Double Digits Since Friday

Covid count: 11 cases of the virus since Friday in Adair county. Making 31 active at the moment. The youngest, a 9 year old girl with the virus…the oldest, a 78 year old woman. Three 17 year old girls also with the virus.

There are two opportunities for residents to get second doses and booster doses of the
Moderna or Pfizer vaccine this week. Moderna shots Tuesday afternoon and Pfizer on Thursday. You have to call the health dept to register.

Pandemic Prize: Get The Shot, Get A Gift Card

Adair county will giveaway gift cards, hoping to get more people vaxed. Starting November first, the Health Department will give $50 gift cards good at Hyvee, Walmart or Walgreens to those getting a first shot and then another $50 card for the second shot. Money for the project coming from the state.

SUV Goes Airborne In Accident

A Kentucky man suffered moderate injuries in a wreck just after midnight Friday in Randolph county on U.S. 24 near Clifton Hill. The patrol says 44 year old Jeffrey Palmquist — ran off the road in a Ford SUV, went up an embankment — and became airborne. The SUV hit several trees before landing on its wheels. Palmquist was taken by ambulence to Moberly Regional Medical Center.

Ten New Covid Cases; Vaccine Clinics This Week

The Adair County Health Department has confirmed 10 new cases of COVID-19, with seven cases Thursday and three on Friday. That means 27 active cases at the moment. Females from 15 to 62 diagnosed with the virus…men 19-to-53. And, four of the cases were people who have been vaxed.

You have two opportunities to get a second dose or booster shot of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine this week at the Health Department, The Moderna vaccine will be administered Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Pfizer vaccine will be administered Thursday, Nov. 4, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call to register. 660-665-8491

Haunted House At The Fire Department

Kirksville’s Fire Department presents a “Nightmare on Franklin Street.” It’s a haunted house — this Saturday evening from 6-10 — at the fire station on Franklin.

There’s Candy for small children, and the haunted house is for older kids and adults, and it’s free.

Chief Resigns In Monroe City

Monroe City will need a new police chief at the end of the month. Chief Tyler Wheeler announced his resignation effective at the end of November. Wheeler took over as the city’s police chief in 2017.
