The Adair County Health Department reminds you that free covid-home tests are again available from Uncle Sam. All you have to do is go online and ask for them at covid.gov/tests. The kit contains eight tests and they are delivered by mail. The Health Department encourages every household in Adair County to take advantage of the opportunity.

You Don’t Have To Bow Your Head At City Council Meetings
No prayer — just a moment of silence.
Kirksville city council voted 3 to 2 not to once again open meetings in prayer, a practice that was stopped last June.
So, meetings will start with the mission statement being read…then a quiet moment. But no one will pray out loud.
Want To Get Rid Of Old Batteries? Get Some Masking Tape
Get some masking tape. The city of Kirksville says ANY battery that you want to get rid of this Saturday at the hazardous waste drop-off, must have the positive and negative terminals covered with masking tape. Otherwise they will not take them.
The drop-off is for City residents. It’s from 8:00 am and 12:00 pm Saturday at the Public Works Complex, but you have to call the public works department for an appointment.
Items not accepted include latex paint, syringes, items containing mercury, knives, electronics, and computer batteries
Locally — Gas Cheaper Than Much Of America
If you’re traveling, fill-ups will be expensive. AAA says the national average is $4.48 a gallon for unleaded regular. That’s up 39-cents per gallon from a month ago and $1.43 higher than a year ago.
Locally, Adair county is about 50-cents cheaper than the rest of America. The average is $3.99 a gallon. Surrounding counties are also pumping at 3.99 a gallon.
Rough Week-end On The Roads — Including A Double Fatality
Three serious accidents in the area over the past week-end. One of them, a double fatal.
In that wreck, a man and his son were killed Saturday morning on Route J in Adair county. The patrol says 80 year old Robert Patchin and 54 year old Charles Patchin died…when their truck ran off the road…went into the air and hit an embankment. Both men thrown out of the pick-up. The younger Patchin was driving and neither of the men wore a seat belt.
A Kirksville man was badly hurt Saturday in a motorcyle wreck on Highway 63 in Macon County. The State Patrol says 23 year old David Sizemore ran off the road and was thrown off. He was not wearing a helmet. He’s listed with serious injuries at University Hospital.
And another accident Satruday afternoon near Green City. A pick-up truck trying to pass, hit a farm tractor that was making a keft turn on Highway 129. The 25 year old drving the truck, Jerold Robertson had moderate injuries. The man on the tractor, not hurt.
40 Years Of Helping The Disabled
The Chariton Valley Association is celebrating 40 years of service. The CVA serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Association provides employment, residential, and community services for people with disabilities. Support services for those in need range from a few hours of care each week to care 24 hours per day.
The group employees almost 200 people. The 40th anniversary event will be Tuesday the 17th at the DuKum Inn from 5 until 7pm
City Looking For Volunteers For Transportation Commission

Patrol: Driving Drunk, Wrecks Stolen Truck
In Scotland county, a man wrecked a pick-up on Route A, and he was thrown out as the truck turned over. The patrol says 24 year old Caleb Doyle was seriously hurt. He’s going to be charged with stealing the truck as well as driving while intoxicated.
It’s Time! Farmers’ Market Opens
If you’re making week-end plans, the Kirksville Kiwanis Club Farmers Market opens this Saturday on North Elson by the courthouse. From now through October, the market will open on Saturdays from 7 until noon.
Kirksville Firefighters Get Special Rescue Training
Special training for sixteen members of the Kirksville Fire Department — they have finished a technical rescue training course. It is training that prepares responders to handle incidents such as search and rescue at high angles.
It was a 56 hour course that included a day-long practical exam.
