Gas Prices Jump Overnight In Adair County

Gas prices continue to skyrocket.

Nationally, AAA says the average is $4.17. And the average in Adair county is up 8-cents from Monday, running at $3.63 a gallon.

President Biden says we’ll feel more pain…as he announced the U.S. will not buy Russian oil because of the war in Ukraine. Missouri has some of the lowest prices in the country — even with the increases. B

ut, Patrick DeHaan at Gas Buddy warns that we’re going to pay more than we ever have for gas…for many families just gassing up their cars will add another $2,000 to spending this year. In some spots in California…prices over $6 a gallon.

High Gas, High Grocery Prices Continue

Gasbuddy says that for the first time in the U.S., the national average for unleaded regular gasoline has hit $4.10 a gallon, and the price-hikes will continue.

AAA says the average in Adair county is$3.55. and it’s $3.61 in Linn and Macon counties.

Grocery prices also continue climbing. The war in Ukraine causing part of the problem. For example, wheat prices were at a 14-year high last week, because Russia and Ukraine export nearly 30% of the world’s wheat exports.

Kids Menu Changes — Where’s The Softdrink?

Changes are on the way when you take kids out to eat in St. Louis.

City aldermen think the only drinks that should be offered on kid’s menus are water, milk or fruit juice — so they gave preliminary approval to a bill that would restrict drinks on childrens menus.

The idea, suppsoedly reduce the number of obese kids, but parents could still order children a softdrink if they want.

City Eyes Buying Property To Expand Park

Kirksville city council meets Monday night and they are expected to approve buying a piece of property on North Osteopathy.

The land to be used to add green space to Jaycee park. Cost to the city $50,000, plus closing costs, and a house on the property will eventually have to be torn down for the park project.

Adair County Gas Prices Lower Than Much Of The Country

Gas prices continue to skyrocket, taking a big bite out of family budgets. The national average for unleaded regular now above $4 per gallon. In the week since Russia invaded Ukraine, gas has jumped at least 41-cents a gallon. The all-time high for average gasoline prices was set in July 17, 2008 at $4.10 per gallon.

Serious Injury As Two Pick-Up Trucks Collide

A Kirksville man had to be flown to the hospital after a wreck involving two pick-up trucks Thursday afternoon on Missouri route 11 near New Boston.

The Patrol says 71 year old Robert Long plowed into the side of a truck that was making a right turn. He was not wearing a seat belt, and he was taken by Life Flight to University hospital in Columbia.

The driver of the other truck was not injured.

Gas Prices Rise With Ukraine War

Pain at the pump. AAA says the average price of gas in Missouri is $3.40 a gallon.

In Adair county, it’s $3.27.

There is talk in Washington about the U.S. no longer taking Russian oil — which is a small percentage of our supply. But with prices rising, the White House is hesitant to do anything that would cut supplies and raise prices even more.

Getting Rid Of Covid Isolation

A new pandemic policy. No more heavy-handed vistori restrictions in hospitals and nursing homes. At the peak of the outbreak, health care facilities and nursing homes did not allow visitors.

So the state house gave first approval to a bill to keep that from happening again. Republican House members said visitor restrictions meant some patients died without friends or family by their side.

So under the bill, a patient’s spouse, parent or guardian — plus anther person — could visit at anytime during a disease outbreak.

Covid Cases Drop In Macon County

Covid count in Macon county. There were 11 cases of the virus in the past 7 days, and that is down from 17 the previous week — and 38 the week before that.

So the case counts continue to drop. Of the 11 new cases, about half had been vaccinated. And one person caught it for the second time.

Twitter Politics. Missouri Senate Candidate Kicked Off Twitter

Missouri Senate candidate Vicky Hartzler got the boot from Twitter because the social media company does not like a Tweet she posted about transgender atheletes.

Hartzler said “Women’s sports are for women, not men pretending to be women.” Twitter says her account will be restored, if she will delete her post — but she says she’s not doing that.
