High Gas Prices Could Go Higher Thanks To Ukraine Crisis

Gas prices are running at $3.19 in Adair county according to AAA. The national average $3.53.

Some experts predict that price could DOUBLE to more than six bucks a gallon as Russia moves into Ukraine.

Missouri Gets Millions In Pain Pill Settlement

Missouri gets a piece of the action in that national lawsuit involving pain pills being improperly marketed by drug companies.

The state wil get about 458 million from Johnsons & Johnson and three other companies. The state attorney general’s office says taht 60% of the money will go to the state and 40% will go to local governments.

Much of the money to be given as grants to non-profits and other agencies that treat people addicted to opioids.

Training For Chemical Warfare

Kirksville fire personnel have been training to handle some dangerous stuff. They spent two weeks learning what to do if a call involves hazardous materials.

The training covered toxic and flammabale liquids, solids and gases — including what to do if there’s a release of biological or chemical warfare agents.

Kirksville fire department handles about 75 calls a year that involve emergencies with hazardous materials.

Detective and Firefighter Honored

A Kirksville police detective recognized for five years of service. Nathan Goodwin has served in a number of roles from a patrol officer to detective. And he’s been a member of the SWAT Team. Before working for the city he was with Truman State police.

Meantime…a Kirksville Firefighter has retired. Assistant Chief David Rigdon. He spent just over 29 years working for the city.

Milan Woman Hurt In Crash

A head on crash just after 7 last night on Missouri-5 near Laclede.

The Patrol says 42 year old Glenda Miranda crossed the center line and hit another car head-on. The driver of that car, 27 year old Kirsten Tharp of Milan, was flown to University of Missouri hospital with moderate injuries.
No word at this point on charges in the crash.

Feds Sue Missouri Over Gun Law

The Feds are suing the state of Missouri over a gun law.

The state passed a law that says local cops cannot enforce federal gun laws. But the Justice Department says Missouri can’t just declare federal laws invalid. The Feds also say the new law is keeping police and the FBI from working together on violent crime in the state.

Snow Plows Busy — Snow Emergency Declared

Snow emergency went into effect at one o’clock Thursday morning in Kirksville. That means vehicles on snow emergency routes had to be moved to make way for snow plows. The city encourages everyone to stay off the roads until snow is cleared. Some predictions say up to 10 inches of snow with windchils below zero. So plowing will be difficult, especially downtown where you can expect some street closings.

Deputy Shoots Man After Car Chase

In Boone county, a deputy shot and killed a man after a car chase Sunday morning near Columbia.

37 year old Blain Johnson was driving what deputies blieved was a stolen car. An officer tried to stop the car, but Johnson sped off. He then ran off the road, and got out of the car — gun in hand — according to officers, and that’s when he was shot.

Snow Coming — Snow Emergency Likely

Snow emergency likely to be declared later Wednesay as snow moves across the area. Based on the forecast, up to 10 inches of snow could fall beginning late Wednesday and lasting until sometime Thursday.

A Snow Emergency means all vehicles parked on designated routes, including downtown streets, must be moved within two hours of the declaration of the emergency. If vehicles are not moved, they will be ticketed and or towed.
