The Macon County Health Department will be holding their annual drive-thru flu vaccination clinics throughout Macon County in October. These flu vaccination clinics will have flu vaccinations for adults, including high dose flu vaccinations for those who are 65 and up. They hope to have the updated fall COVID vaccination by our drive thrus, which was approved last week. They are still awaiting the arrival of the shipment, so keep an eye on their website and Facebook page to confirm whether they will have that available by our first drive thru. To the drive thrus they ask that you wear a short sleeved T-shirt, as vaccinations will be given in the arm. They ask that you bring your insurance card or a copy of the front and back for billing; they will have flu vaccinations available to those who are uninsured. You are welcome to print and complete your consent form before the clinic and bring it with you if you would like.

The United Way of Northeast Missouri (UWNEMO) announced that they will kick off their 2024 Capital Campaign on September 27th. It’s set for the White Oaks Wedding Barn in Kirksville, from 6 until 8 p.m. Activities scheduled for the kickoff include: A Wine Cork Pull, children’s games and the Illusion Danz Team from Truman State University. Representatives of all eleven agencies that United Way supports will be set up at tables to answer questions and talk about how they use the monies they receive from the proceeds of the Campaign. The United Way will also preview their 2024 Campaign Film “The Faces of the United Way” which was produced by Ryan Halstead of Halstead Photography.

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, would like to remind those interested in exploring employment with the agency to attend this week’s career expo at General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO. In addition to the position of trooper, the Patrol workforce includes over 60 civilian career paths. Divisions with current openings will have representatives available to answer questions about positions and projects, employee benefits, and what it’s like to work for the Patrol. Currently, there is a wide variety of job opportunities located throughout the state. It’s from 10am until 6pm today.

Truman State University says This year’s fall Career and Graduate Expo will take place Sept. 25-29. The expo is open to students of all majors and academic levels. This event is hosted by the Career Center twice a year as a way to help students prepare for graduate school, internships and job searches. Governor Mike Parson and Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced that nearly 350,000 visitors attended the annual State Fair in Sedalia, which was held Aug. 10-20, 2023. The figure reflects an approximate two and a half percent increase from last year. Special events and exhibits celebrated the 2023 Fair theme Where Traditions Grow. Statistics from fairgoer surveys consistently show that one of the top reasons guests attend the Fair is because it is a tradition for their family.

The Kirksville Police Department is pleased to announce the hiring of a new police officer. Officer David Chrisman was sworn in and began his duties with the patrol division of KPD on September 15, 2023. Officer Chrisman is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Training Institute (University of Missouri). Officer Chrisman is a United States Army Veteran and Kirksville native.

The city of Kirksville has a Reminder: The City’s online utility payment site will go down on Wednesday night as the City transition’s to a new service. . The City is implementing new computer software that requires the creation of new account numbers for all of its utility customers. This new computer software will allow improved payment options and other enhancements for customer service improvements. The City’s current online payment system will close at 11:00 pm on September 20, and this includes the pay-by-phone service. The City will not be able to take online payments from that time until the new site is expected to launch during the first week of October. Payments can still be made in person at City Hall and Hy-Vee, or placed in the drop box outside of City Hall or across the street in the payment receptacle.

The Kirksville City Council is set for a regular meeting tonight at 6. The agenda shows the group will consider adopting the Kirksville Fire Department’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2034. They’re also set to approve the Kirksville Parks and Recreation Scholarship Program Policies and Procedures. They’ll consider a liquor license application, and approve the appointment of Don Crosby to serve as the City of Kirksville’s Employer Representative to the Missouri Local lGovernmet Employees Retirement system. they’ll go into executive session after the regular city council meeting.
