Reminder about parking rules in downtown Kirksville

The Kirksville Police Department would like to remind citizens of restrictions on overnight parking in the downtown Central Business District. This affects portions of Franklin, Elson, Main, Washington, Harrison and McPherson streets. There is no parking on these streets’ south and west sides on Mondays between 4:00 am and 6:00 am. There is no parking on these streets’ north and east sides on Tuesdays between 4:00 am and 6:00 am. These rules allow the City of Kirksville’s Public Works Department to clean downtown streets. There is often confusion over these parking restrictions because residents may park their vehicles late at night and not take into consideration a parking restriction that takes effect the next morning. The no parking areas are marked with signage detailing the days and times parking is prohibited. KPD enforces these parking restrictions with the issuance of parking citations. Please take these areas into account when parking in downtown.

Smoke testing of Kirksville sewer lines set for next week

As a reminder, smoke testing of sanitary sewer lines in Kirksville will begin next week. These tests will blow harmless smoke into the sewer system to find breaks and other areas where stormwater is entering the sewer system. This is part of the City’s overall sewer system study to find and fix these trouble areas. Stormwater is not meant to enter the sanitary sewer system. When it does, that increases the amount of water getting treated, which puts more stress on the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Residents may see smoke from roof vents, building foundations, catch basins, clean-outs, downspouts, sewer laterals, or manhole covers. The smoke will not enter your home or business if it is properly plumbed, vented, and the water traps contain water.
