The City of Kirksville’s Tourism Advisory Board will hold a meeting at 8:00 am on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the EDA Building. The agenda shows the group will talk about future criteria for Tourism Partnership Applications. They’ll get reports about lodging, and the FLATS St. Pat’s Run and Baseball Spring League Summary Report and letter from the Kirksville Arts Association.

The city of Kirksville says The annual Red, White and Blue Parade will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, starting at 10:00 am in Downtown Kirksville. Parade registration is now open! Applications can be found online. All contestants are encouraged to play patriotic music, and of course, deck your float out in red, white, and blue! The deadline for entry is Friday, June 23, 2023, to be included in the contest. The Kiwanis Club of Kirksville coordinates the float competition and trophies. Governor Mike Parson signed Executive Order 23-05 declaring a Drought Alert in the State of Missouri in accordance with the Missouri Drought Mitigation and Response Plan. A Drought Alert, part of Missouri’s Drought Plan, is the first step for the Governor to direct state agencies to work together to provide as many resources and as much assistance as possible.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 10 people died in traffic crashes over the Memorial Day weekend. The weekend counting period is 6 p.m. Friday, May 26 through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 29. In all, police reported 314 crashes, 102 injuries, 130 DWIs, and 14 drug arrests, along with the fatalities. The Highway Patrol reported there were six boating crashes, three boating injuries, and seven BWIs.

Kirksville Parks and Rec is getting set for summer tennis camps. Session one starts June 5th, and just a few spaces remain in session one. Session one goes through June 15th. Session two starts June 19th. Sessions are 2 weeks long and classes will be held Monday through Thursday at the Kirksville High School Tennis courts. Participants are encouraged to bring a racket, water, and wear closed toe tennis shoes. all other supplies will be provided. The Kirksville R-3 school district is offering summer meals for no charge. The program starts today and goes through June 30th. Meals are served at Kirksville Primary, Ray Miller Elementary, and William Mathew Middle School. Lunches are served Monday through Friday 11 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Every June, the Kirksville Fire Department tests/flushes every hydrant in the City. We will start Thursday, June 1, 2023, and will continue testing them Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. We will continue until all of them are completed. We ask that citizens use caution around personnel, apparatus and water on roadways. This allows the Fire Department to ensure that all fire hydrants are in working order and gives personnel a better idea of hydrant locations. If there are issues, we will work closely with Public Works to get them repaired in timely manner.

The Street Maintenance Division of the City of Kirksville’s Public Works Department will begin mill and overlay work on West Michigan Street, between South Boundary Street and the City Limit, starting Wednesday, May 31st, 2023. The street will have alternating lane closures during construction. This work will impact Ray Drive and Alma Avenue. This project is expected to be completed by June 14th, depending on the weather.
