News Staff Head-on wreck on Saturday at lunch time on Missouri route six. The patrol say 38 year old Janvier Peterson of Milan was driving drunk, when he passed a line of cars in his pick-up and hit an SUV head-on.
The driver of the SUV seriously hurt. He’s identified as 54 year old Timothy Harrelson of Milan.
Another pick-up ran off the road to avoid the crash.
Peterson, the driver accused of causing the wreck, apparently not hurt, but he was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Starting Monday. the Adair county health department will provide doses of Naloxone to residents who ask. The drug will come in nasal doses — it is used to reverse the affects of opoid overdoses. The health department is seen has a move to help save lives.
In Missouri, there were 1,609 opioid overdose deaths in 2021.
Spring is here. Time for cleaning up your lawn. The City of Kirksville’s Spring Brush and Limb Pick-Up is now set. It runs April 3rd through 7th. City crews will begin picking up tree limbs and large brush on Monday the 3rd. Even though the work is expected to take the entire week, to guarantee pick-up, your brush must be placed curbside by 7:00 am, on that Monday.

There are 16 projects being considered, but which ones should get the priority. So the city has created a tournament bracket — sort of like the college basketball brackets — which are big in March.

A 14 year old girl was hurt Sunday when she fell out of four wheeler and was hit by a car. Her name not given but she was flown to St. Louis Children;s Hospital with moderate injuires. The patrol says she was riding with another girl in the UTV on Breckenridge Avenue in Palmyra. The vehicle made a left turn, she fell out — right into the path of the car behind them — driven by a 16 year old boy
Macon county sheriff’s deputies are stepping up patrols looking for drunk drivers. The increased enforcement is going on now through April 19th.
The project paid for by a grant. So, you’ll see an increased presence of deputies on the roads.

Next month, Macon deputies will run stepped up enforcement looking for young drivers who are not wearing seatbelts. About 30% of Missiouri teens do not buckle-up when driving or riding in a vehicle.

A doctor from Moberly pleads guilty to cheating Medicare and Medicaid for more than a half million dollars. Justin LaMonda had his medical license suspended several years ago — but he billed Medicare for services by using his father’s Medicare account. His father is also a physcian. LaMonda could face up to five years in prison, and a hefty fine.
Trying to navigate Missouri’s new freedom to smoke weed. A bill has been introduced that says if you have pot in a car, it has to be in an odor-proof and child-proof contanier. It’s an effort to prevent driving and smoking pot which is against the law — but — if a cop smells weed during a traffic stop. he can’t use that as an excuse to arrest the driver.
The bill was disccused last week in a committee.
A different company will drive your kids to school. The Kirksville School District has approved a deal with Ecco Ride of Missouri. They will replace Weber bus — the company that’s run the school buses for many years.
