On July 15, 2025, at approximately 9:38am, the Moberly Police Department responded to a report of a subject who had been electrocuted after tampering with a utility line in the 1700 block of Leah Lane. Upon arrival, officers found the individual, who had sustained serious injuries after coming into contact with the live utility line. Emergency medical services transported the subject to Moberly Regional Medical Center for treatment. The subject, a 54-year-old man from Moberly, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Currently, the incident is being investigated as an accident. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members. The Moberly Police Department is working closely with utility officials to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the event. We urge the public to exercise caution around utility lines and report any suspicious activity immediately to ensure safety for all.

Indoor pool at Kirksville Aquatic Center closed for maintenance
Kirksville Parks and Rec says the indoor pool at the Kirksville Aquatic Center will be closed July 13 through July 20, 2025, for routine annual maintenance. This includes deep cleaning, paint touch-ups, and water replacement.
During this time, lap swimming will be available at the water park, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am to 9:30 am, and 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Water walking will be available in the water park current channel on those same days and times. The Arthritis Class will meet at its usual time, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 9:00 am, in the water park. The Friends Aerobics class will move to 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Suspect arrested in connection to Moberly shooting
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says on July 6, 2025, the Moberly Police Department requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control investigate a shooting which occurred in the 900 block of East Logan Street, in Moberly, MO. Upon law enforcement arrival, authorities located a female subject deceased at the residence with an apparent gunshot injury. The deceased female was identified as Bailey E. Scott, 23, of Moberly, MO. On July 10, 2025, Division of Drug and Crime Control investigators arrested David K. Heyde, 68, of Moberly, MO. Heyde was transported to the Randolph County Jail. The Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney formally charged Heyde with Second Degree Murder. He is being held without bond.

Big honor for Truman State
Truman State University is once again included on The Princeton Review’s Best Value Colleges list for 2025. Out of more than 650 institutions, only 209 were selected to be on the list for this year. The company chose the colleges featured on the list based on those that earned the highest return on investment ratings in this year’s analysis. They tallied the ROI ratings based on more than 40 data points that covered academics, affordability and career preparation. Truman’s profile on the list includes numerous quotes from various students that were surveyed by The Princeton Review. Students said Truman is “a collective place for ambitious individuals” and the atmosphere is one where everyone is all in this together.

Water main replacement work set to begin
Beginning July 15, the City of Kirksville’s Utility Maintenance Division will replace a water main on West Pierce Street, between South First Street and South Osteopathy Street. This work will occur between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm and is expected to last approximately four weeks, depending on weather. The traveling public is strongly encouraged to use caution, pay attention to signage and personnel, drive slowly through work areas, and utilize alternate routes. Highway Patrol investigating Moberly shooting
At the request of the Moberly Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting in Moberly. At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday July 6th 2025, the Moberly Police Department responded to a shooting at a residence in the 900 block of E. Logan St. Upon arrival, police found a female subject deceased with an apparent gunshot injury. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending, and there is no danger to the community. Upon completion of the investigation, the investigative case file will be forwarded to the Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney for review.

Kirksville Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the summer production of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical,” a relatable adventure through the middle school years! This family-oriented production will bring to life all the humor and shenanigans of middle school from the perspective of Greg as he enters his own middle school experience. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical” follows the plot of the first installment of Jeff Kinney’s popular middle-grade graphic novel. Throughout the course of the school year, Greg tries many schemes to increase his popularity, but along the way may make decisions he regrets. Just how far is he willing to go? Performances are on July 11 and 12 at 7:00 pm and July 13 at 2:00 pm at William Matthew Middle School’s Auditorium. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased online at Kirksville.gov/p/rec-login, or in person at the Kirksville Aquatic Center. Remaining seats will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
