For the month of August 2023, Governor Mike Parson granted 15 pardons pursuant to Article IV, Section 7 of the Constitution of the State of Missouri. Official documents have been filed with the appropriate government agencies and have been sent to the individuals. Families have been or are in the process of being notified. Governor Parson has instructed his legal team to continue reviewing clemency files and working to eliminate the backlog inherited by his administration.

Campaign focuses on disaster preparedness
The Kirksville Fire Department says National Preparedness Month is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time.
The Ready Campaign’s 2023 National Preparedness Month theme is “Take Control in 1, 2, 3.” The campaign will focus on preparing older adults for disasters, specifically older adults from communities who are disproportionately impacted by the all-hazard events, which continue to threaten the nation.
Council set for study session
The Kirksville City Council will hold a study session on Thursday September 7th at 4 p.m. in the council chambers. The tentative agenda includes a budget planning meeting, and newsletter reviews.
Truman State was busy this summer
This summer, Truman welcomed more than 600 pre-college students to campus for multiple programming options. One of the most popular summer options, the Joseph Baldwin Academy for Eminent Young Scholars is for students that have completed 7th, 8th or 9th grade before the academy session begins. Broken into two sessions each lasting three weeks, JBA gives participating students the opportunity to experience campus life and attend multiple courses.
The first session consisted of 239 students, 31 preceptors and eight pro-staff members, while 257 students, 32 preceptors and eight pro-staff members participated in the second session. Students could choose from 11 different courses among subjects in the fields of STEM, fine arts, writing/language, history/social studies and athletic training.
Kohlenberg Lyceum Series kicks off soon
Truman State University says the 2023-24 Kohlenberg Lyceum Series will kick off with a performance by the soul-inspired roots rock band The Mighty Pines at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 in Baldwin Auditorium.This St. Louis-based group is known for creating vast musical landscapes with layered harmonies and thoughtfully crafted instrumentation.For more information, visit lyceum.truman.edu or call 660.785.4128.
Two new hunting seasons set
The State Department of Conservation is adding two new hunting seasons for this year. Ky3 says there is an early antler-less season for deer from October 6 to 8th. The other season is a chronic wasting disease season, which runs from November 22 to 26 in several counties around the state.
Truman State has students available for service projects

In its history, the SERVE Center has partnered with more than 130 community agencies located in the Kirksville community and run events such as the BIG Event every year. Whiskey and Turkey Festival coming up
Don’t miss Main Street Kirksville’s Whiskey & Turkey Festival on Saturday, September 9. All of the fun will be located on South Elson Street in Downtown Kirksville. The festival starts at 5:00 pm with music, turkey legs and plenty of drink options. Missouri’s own Travis Gibson takes the stage at 7:00 pm. All the fun keeps going until 10:00 pm. This event is a fun twist on Kirksville history. The legend goes that Jesse Kirk served a meal of turkey and whiskey to the key people who ended up naming the City after him.
Gym Facility in Milan open for students two days a week
Milan C-2 Schools says The Gym Facility will be open for Milan students in grades 6 through 12 who would like to use the facility for activities to better themselves or to play activities with other students. The gym will be open from 6:15 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on September 7th.
Talks about I70 expansion continue
Public meetings are underway across the state to talk about the plan to expand I-70 to six lanes across missouri. Plans call for the project to be done in seven years.
