Library Plans Meeting On Proposed Tax Hike

Property tax hike for Adair public library. The library wants voters to approve an increase of 12-cents per $100 dollars of property-value. It would be the first increase since the mid-80’s.

The average home in Adair county, valued at 118,000 would see a tax hike of $140 a year for the library. The library will be have a meeting to provide information on the afterooon of October 29th.

There’s An App For That: The Health Department

Now you can access the Adair county health department thorugh an app on your phone. The new app is available in the App store or on Google Play. You can use it to find everything from clinic hours to health department services to forms that may be required.

The health director says that with most people using smartphones, the app is necessary to make it easier to do business with the department

Making travel plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. New Bankrate survey says alot of people changing plans because of high prices. Out of 43% of adults that have travel plans — nearly all of them said they will either shorten the trip or drive instead of fly — or make other changes to save some cash.

Secretary Admits Stealing Money

In Ralls county, a 51 year old woman facing a long stretch in federal prison. Stephanie Carper admits she stole more than a million dollars while working as a secretary for a family owned agriculture business. Carper pleaded guilty in Federal court. Prosecutors say that Carper spent the money on vehicles and vacations. She will be sentenced in January. She could get 30 years.

New Tax Bill Signed By The Govenor. Will You Save Much?

A “great day for Missouri.” That’s what Governor Parson called it, when he signed a bill that cuts the income tax rate in Missouri.

The governor says your tax bill should average about 5% less next year.

One group did some math and fournd that if you earn $30,000 annually — you will pay about ten dollars less in taxes. A person who make $86,000 will owe $120 less. And people who earn $150,000 will see a $320 reduction in state taxes.

Flu Shots: Drive Through Clinic A Success; Another Next Week

Alot of shots in alot of arms. The Adair county drive-through flu-shot was held clinic yesterday and 725 people got the shot at the NEMO Fairgrounds.

The Health Department will also administer flu shots next Thursday, the 13th, in Brashear. It will be a drive through event from 2-6 in front of City Hall.

Two Arrested For Having Child Porn

Child porn charges. The State Patrol made arrests in two separate porn cases. On Monday, officers arrested 20 year old Scott O’Brien in Moberly. They seized child porn and computer equipment. He was locked up on $20,000 bond.

Then on Tuesday, 38 year old Gabriel Cloutier of Hannibal was arrested. Again, pictures and computers seized. Cloutier was locked up on a hundred thousand dollar bond.

Extra Training For Kirksville Fighters

Seventeen Kirksville firefighters have finished a 40-hour course on how to rescue people trapped in trenches or in other excavation situations. Trench work is common around Kirksville and it can be dangerous.

22 workers have died in the first half of the year, in trenching and excavation accidents around the U.S.

New Health Care Facility For Kirksville Approved

Kirksville will be getting more health care options, as Hannibal Regional Healthcare gets a green light from the city council to rezone about 170 acres for a new facility.

Council likes the idea of more medical care — even though Northeast Regional opposed the rezoning because they’re worried about losing patients to the new facility.
