Covid Counts Up In Adair County. Local Shot-Clinics This Week

Macon county health department has a covid vaccine clinic this Thursday. You have to make an appointment.

In Adair county…the Health Department administers the Pfizer vaccine for youngsters on Thursday from 3-5:30, and starting this Thursday, they will have vaccine for kids as young as six months.

In the past seven days in Adair county — the health department know of 73 new cases. There were 69 cases in the previous seven-days.

Meantime in Sullivan county — three new cases of covid reported

Road Closure Thursday Night In Kirksville.

Road work that will affect your drive: Water main work on East mill starts today (Wednesday).

As a result, a section of East Mill Street will be closed from 8p Thursday until 1am Friday. That closure is from the intersection of Eas Mill and North New Street, and runs o the gravel parking lot in Rotary Park.

Use an alternate route during that time.

Investigation Into Chariton County Train-Truck Crash

Deadly Amtrak crash in Chariton county. At least three died…and more than 40 injured…when the train hit a dump truck at a crossing that had no lights or crossing arms. Two of the dead were on the train and one victim was in the truck. Eight cars flipped off the track, landing on their sides. There were 243 passengers on the train that was traveling from the west coast to Chicago.

Fireworks For The 4th? Might Want To Buddy-Up To Your Neighbors

If you’re stocking-up on fireworks for the 4th, Kirksville police remind you to know the rules.

Lighting fireworks inside the city limits will be legal starting on June 30, and you can continue to use them through July 5th. But they’re only allowed between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. and only on on your own property.

If neighbors complain and call the cops, you will have to stop, and you could get a ticket for disturbting the peace

Gas Taxes. Federal Tax May Go Down. Missouri Tax Goes Up

AAA says the price in Missouri is averaging $4.65 a gallon. In Adair and surrounding counties, it’s about $4.59 a gallon.

President Biden is proposing that we stop paying the 18-cents/per gallon gas tax for awhile to save a little money. Congress has to approve. But even some democrats are saying, the tax holiday won’t help much. And some industry analysts say it could backfire and drive prices up.

Meantime, on July 1st here in Missouri, the state gas tax will rise from 19-cents to 22-cents a gallon.

Guns And Greitens. New Polictical Ad Drawing Fire

A new television ad from disgraced former Governor Eric Greitens is getting plenty of criticism.

Greitens is runnig for Senate. In the ad, he is armed, and appears to be with a swat team. He says that he is hunting liberal Republicans known as RINO’s.

The Missouri Fraternal Order of police is blasting the ad, saying that the suggestion of using violence against political opponents is deplorable, especially after Republican members of Congress were attacked by a gunman in 2017.

Greitens was forced out of office as governor is a sex scandal and his former wife has accused him of abuse.

Speeding Tickets and Fireworks. Troopers Ready For July 4th

July 4th is two weeks away and the state patrol is out with an early reminder that troopers will be on the roads and on the waterways — in force — looking for speeders, drunk drivers and other dangerous behavior that can cause accidents.

During last year’s July 4th holiday, four people died and 220 were injured in 437 wrecks

Gas Prices Keep Rising Locally

Gas prices keep climbing. The national average is $5 a gallon…statewide $4.63 and in Adair county, it’s $4.59. President Biden now blaming oil companies, asking that they produce more gas. Previously he blamed Vladamir Putin for high gas prices.

North Baltimore Road Project Set To Start

Major work starts Monday in Kirksville. Crews will add a new center turn lane to North Baltimore Street that runs to the junction in front of the Walmart.

And the project calls for widening lanes as well as installing new signs. It’s a $2-million dollar job that will take just over four months.

Ride’em Cowboy. Three Local Boys To Compete In National Rodeo

Some young Kirksville cowboys will be on a big stage next week, at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Georgia.

Cade McCarty an eighth-grade student from Kirksville has a spot on the Iowa National Junior High team. Steele Sanchez, a seventh-grade student from Kirksville is on the Missouri Rodeo team. And Kannan Wood, a sixth-grader from Kirksville has also qualified for the Missouri team.
