Young hunters in Missouri took nearly 2,800 turkeys during the spring youth weekend. And nearly 3,000 young people participated.
In Adair county, 29 gobblers were taken. The regular spring turkey season starts on April 18 and runs through May 8.

A heart attack behind the wheel.
It happened Saturday morning about 7:20 on Missouri 27 near Wayland. The patrol says 62 year old Robert Kase crossed a median into the opposite lane — hittting a tree — then turning over. Troopers say Kase suffered a heart attack and that was the cause of the wreck, he died at the scene.
A new administrator will run day-to-day business in the city of Milan. Crystal Bupp who grew up in Milan is getting the job. Bupp has been the Executive Director of the Missouri Democratic Party and she worked for former Governor Nixon.
Heads-up for road work.
Green Street will close next Tuesday between East Mary and East Burton for water main work. The closing is from 7am to 4pm.

Municipal elections in Adair county. Voters said “yes,” they will pay a little extra sales tax to help the ambulence service in the county. 1/8th of a cent more in sales tax on each purchase.
Nearly 12-hundred voted yes, while 836 were opposed.
Kirksville police say that chatter in the community about an increase in crime is not accurate.
And to prove it, the department put out statistics showing that the number of serious crimes are staying about the same level as previous years.
The stats show thefts are up slightly over last year. Aggravated assaults are basically the same as last year and burglaries are down a little. You can see all the numbers on the department’s Facebook page.
This is the second time in recent days that the police have responded to comments in the community. Recently, the chief issued a statement saying that rumors about police going soft on certain crimes is not true.
A thank-you for serving Kirksville. Lt David Grissom has been recognized for 25 years of service with the Police Department. During his time with KPD, he has served as a patrol officer, a corporal, a sergeant, a negotiator, and a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children unit. Prior to serving with the Kirksville Police Lieutenant Grissom served as a police officer with the Milan Police Department. Lieutenant Grissom is a graduate of Northeast Missouri State University — now known as Truman State University.
Municipal elections are Tuesday in Adair county.
One item you have to decide: do you want to pay a little more sales tax to support the county ambulence service. If you vote ‘yes,’ the tax rate will go up 1/8th of a cent. The ambulence district says that means if you spend $8 at the check-out — you’d pay an extra penny — and that would raise about $400,0000 for the ambulence district.
Going to school four days a week. The Milan C-2 School District has decided to have kids in school Tuesday-through-Friday this fall. That’s because teachers have been quitting — going to other districts that offer the four day week. Monday’s will be a day off, but kids can take catch-up classes on that day, if they choose.
The pandemic is over. Governor Parson says so. He announced an end to the COVID-19 crisis in Missouri and said that the state will be shifting to an endemic phase as of April 1st. That basically means that Covid is just a virus that we have to live with like other viruses.
The governor said that vaccines, testing, and treatments are now readily available for all Missourians, and much of the population now has some immunity.
