Forest Grove Park closing today
The City of Milan says exciting things are happening at Forest Grove Park! ???? New playground equipment is on the way and will be installed this week to enhance the play experience for our community’s youth!

Be safe over the Independence Day holiday
Colonel Michael A. Turner, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, reminds Missouri’s travelers to make smart choices for a safe Independence Day holiday. Whether planning to visit one of Missouri’s recreational opportunities or hosting a backyard barbecue, everyone should make safety part of their plans. No matter how you decide to celebrate, your smartest choice is to follow all Missouri traffic and boating laws. During the 2024 counting period, 14 people were killed and 560 were injured in Missouri over the holiday in 1,366 traffic crashes. Last year during the counting period, troopers arrested 149 people for driving while intoxicated. In 2024, there were 10 boating crashes, which included seven injuries and no fatalities. No one drowned during last year’s July Fourth holiday. Troopers made 12 boating while intoxicated arrests over last year’s July Fourth holiday weekend.
Money available to address house repairs
The City’s of Kirksville’s Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program is designed for low- and moderate-income homeowners to address safety and public health code violations, as well as provide funds for necessary house repairs, at a reduced rate. The program covers the upfront cost of the repair, with the applicant reimbursing a percentage of that cost based on their income level. Kirksville schools update Ray Miller Elementary School plans
The Kirksville School District says Building Resource Studio has released their most recent exterior design images for the upcoming construction at Ray Miller Elementary School, set to begin later this year. The project includes a secure vestibule entrance and an expanded main office space.
Sign your kids up for the Little Sluggers League
Kirksville Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the 2025 Little Sluggers League! Little Sluggers is a co-ed tee-ball program for kids ages 3 to 5 years old. All practices and games will be held at North Park in Kirksville. Practices will begin the week of August 11, 2025, and games will take place from August 25 through September 26. Little Sluggers costs $40 per child through July 14 and $50 after. Registration includes a shirt, hat, and end-of-season award. New Moberly Chief of Police is sworn in
During this week’s Moberly City Council meeting, Bobby Calvert was sworn in as Chief of Police. Representatives from regional agencies, Moberly officers and family members attended to show their support.
Calvert Promoted to Moberly Police Chief
The City of Moberly and its Police Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Bobby Calvert to Chief of Police. The City conducted a comprehensive, internal needs assessment and employment search in preparation for filling the role. “It is a privilege to congratulate Bobby Calvert on his appointment as Chief of Police,” said City Manager Michael Bugalski. “He has distinguished himself as a trusted leader and valued colleague. The loyalty he inspires is a testament to both his tremendous potential in this role, and the strong support he has within our department. The outpouring of community support for his efforts has been overwhelming, and we look forward with great anticipation to all he will accomplish.” Calvert began his law enforcement career after graduating from the Moberly Area Community College Law Enforcement Training Center in 2000. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bellevue University and is also a graduate of the Northwestern University Police Staff and Command School.

Deadwood will be kicking off the Kirksville Arts Association Summer on the Square concert series – 7:00 pm on the lawn of the Adair County Courthouse.
ATSU KCOM celebrates graduates
A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM), the founding school of osteopathic medicine, celebrated a new class of 162 graduates on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Kirksville, Missouri. Of the 162 graduates, 154 received their doctor of osteopathic medicine degree and eight received their master of science in biomedical sciences degree.
