State Attorney General Threatens Lawsuits Over Mask Mandates

The battle continues over mask mandates. Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt is now telling school districts and county public health departments — that he will take them to court — if they do not stop enforcing health orders such as mask mandates and quarantine rules.

Schmitt points out that a judge in Cole County last month issued a ruling that said health orders from local authorities are “null and void.”

Meantime, Truman State’s indoor mask mandate continues. It will stay in effect when students come back after Christmas break. But it will be reviewed again before the end of January.

Funeral Planned For Teen Killed In Hunting Accident

A Go Fund Me page has been set-up to help with funeral expenses for 14 year old Jordan Griffey. He died after accidentally shooting himself Saturday near Kahoka while he was hunting. His funeral is set for 5 p.m. this Friday in the Clark County R-1 High School gym

More Covid Cases;Pediatric Vaccine Clinic This Week

Covid-count: between last Friday and Monday, the Adair county health department confirmed 40 newcases of COVID-19 and four more COVID-related deaths that were previously not reported.

That means there are 134 cases active at the moment, with 41 residents who have died.

The new cases involve a girl as young as one with the virus, and a woman who is 95. New cases also include 5 and 6 year boys.

There are seven new cases connected with local schools. And three people with the virus had been vaccinated.

You Help The Hungry At The Adair Library

If you’re going to the Adair county library, why not take a few canned goods to drop off in the barrel in the lobby. The Library is collecting food through December, with everything that’s dropped off, given to the local Salvation Army.

Items must be unopened and not expired.

Pandemic Pay-offs Not Convincing People To Take The Vaccine

Pandemic payola….paying people to take the vaccine hasn’t worked too well. An investigation by the The Missouri Independent shows that few health depts in the state have taken advantage of the state’s gift card program…to give cards to people who roll-up their sleeves. Adair county has been involved in the program to reward vaccinations with a car…but as of mid november only 15 cards were handed out. Several states that offered big money for taking the shot…didn’t move the needle very much. North Carolina, for example, had four drawings for a million dollars in their vax lottery and the program did not prompt many people to get the shots

Tributes Poor In For Bob Dole

Tributes are coming in for Bob Dole who died yesterday. He was 98 years old.

Dole suffered disabling wounds in World War II. He rose to prominence in the Senate and ran for President against Bill Clinton.

Missouri Senator Roy Blunt said that Missouri Republicans considered Bob Dole as Missouri’s third United States Senator. Blunt said Dole’s quick wit and “keen understanding of America’s role in the world were always part of any conversation you had with him. A great life, well lived.”

Watch Your Packages. Kirksville Man Accused Of Swiping Porch Package

Tis the season for porch pirates — people who steal packages delivered to your house by Amazon or UPS or other services. A Kirksville man arrested for doing just that. 19 year old Ely McKeehan arrested after police were alerted to a package swiped from a porch on March Drive. The homeowner had video of the crime being committed.

Beware Online Love Scams

Be careful looking for love online. In St. Louis County, a man pleaded guilty to helping sweet-talk women out of a lot of money in 25 states. 43-year-old Bonmene Sibe pleaded guilty to helping a Nigerian group. The scam involved using stolen identities of U.S. military officers, so women thought they were talking to real soldiers. Sibe’s job was to find people willing to send cash and electronics to their new online boyfriends.

Victims lost more than a million dollars.

Experts say if you’re talking romance with someone online and they begin asking for money — it’s probably a scam.

Daily Covid Count Climbs

Covid count. The Adair county health department says 28 new cases on Wednesday. That brings the current number of active cases to 123. And since this all started last year, Adair county has had right at 39-hundred people in the county with the virus. Nearly all recovered.

The city of Kirksville will hold a workshop for people interested in starting a daycare.

WIth the pandemic, child care has become an issue, with some centers closing or having trouble getting help.
