The regional COVID-19 vaccine event originally scheduled for February 10th has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 18th from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at The Crossing, in Kirksville. The Adair County Health Department, local and regional healthcare and community partners, and the Missouri National Guard will be coordinating the mass vaccination and directing traffic at The Crossing. Those who registered for the February 10th event should keep the same scheduled appointment time. Due to cancellations, there are some appointments still available. Those who do not have internet service can call 660-730-6100 and 660-730-6200 to register. This regional event is primarily for adults age 65 and older and high-risk individuals. Missouri Senator Roy Blunt released a statement Saturday after voting against a second impeachment of President Donald Trump. Blunt said that before the trial he believed the constitutional purpose for presidential impeachment was to remove a president from office, not to punish a person after they have left office. Blunt went on to day that none of the arguments presented changed his view that the proceeding was unconstitutional. Blunt added that impeachment is not a tool that should be used to settle political scores against a private citizen. The former President was acquitted when a two-thirds majority was not reached to impeach.

Those who received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine at the January 27th drive-through should return next Wednesday, February 17th, for their second dose. The Adair County Health Department has scheduled a walk-in clinic at The Crossing, 810 East Shepherd Avenue in Kirksville to administer the second dose. The clinic is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is not open for the general public. Vaccine recipients should arrive at The Crossing at the same time as their first dose was scheduled on January 27th.

The statewide event with the Missouri National Guard and community partners that was postponed on February 10th has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 18th at The Crossing, in Kirksville, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A separate press release from the health department will be issued today with details regarding the rescheduled event.

The Adair County Health Department confirmed six new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. Total case count is 2,258 with 59 active cases. The new cases include two in the higher education sector and one is related to an area plant. One of yesterday’s cases resides at an address with at least one other confirmed case. A previously identified 55-year-old male admitted to Northeast Regional Medical Center on February 3rd was discharged to his home on February 10th.

A Kirksville High School student who helped to save lives won a Red Cross scholarship. As part of the Red Cross Leaders Save Lives winter program, Audrey Danielson hosted a blood drive at The Crossing on Dec. 30, which collected 34 blood donations and seven first time donors. As a result, Danielson was entered in a drawing to win a $1,000 scholarship and was chosen as a winner.

The two people killed in a plane crash near Trenton were a father and son. As of yesterday, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office had not released the identity of the two people who were on board a small Cessna aircraft that went down east of Trenton. Officials said in a news release that the Cessna departed from Humphreys and was heading to Kirksville when it crashed. The search for the plane began Monday night. The wreckage of the aircraft was found Tuesday afernoon.

Scotland County Hospital and Clinics received an allotment of Moderna vaccines for this week and staff are currently calling individuals on the list to schedule vaccination shots for tomorrow. They are authorized to vaccinate individuals that fall in the Phase 1b category. The Hospital staff want to ensure all that want a vaccine, get a vaccine in the coming days and weeks. The Adair County Health Department confirmed nine new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. There are now 63 active cases out of the total of 2,252 cases to date. An 86-year-old female previously reported and admitted to Northeast Regional Medical Center on February 1st was discharged to home Tuesday. Two of the new cases are in the K-12 schools sector and four are in the higher education sector. Seven of the nine cases reside at addresses with at least one other confirmed case.

The City of Kirksville’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System draft permit is now available for public review and comment. You can find the permit on the City’s website at www.kirksvillecity.com/ms4permit. There is a 30-day comment period culminating with a Public Hearing during the March 15th City Council Meeting.

A missing Cessna aircraft was found in Grundy County yesterday afternoon, according to an alert by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office. The plane first originated from St. Louis on Monday, where it stopped in Moberly and headed for Kirksville, but never arrived. The initial search was focused near Humphreys in Sullivan County. The search went late into the night Monday and started up again early yesterday morning. Officials announced yesterday afternoon that the plane was found in eastern Grundy County, about a mile southeast of Galt. There was one pilot and one passenger. Neither survived. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
