Kirksville Arts will be offering two workshops on drawing in April. The workshops will be led by Deb Meyers the retired Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Culver Stockton. On April 12th from 1-4 pm, a Beginning Drawing Workshop will be held at the Sue Ross Arts Center. All supplies will be provided. The cost is $35 for KAA members and $40 for non-members. Deb will be teaching basic drawing skills in this workshop, no prior experience is needed. The deadline to sign up for this workshop is April 9th. On April 19th from 1-4 pm a Portrait Drawing Workshop will be held. Participants can bring in a photograph of whoever they would like to draw, this could be a person or an animal all other supplies will be provided. The cost for the second workshop is $35 for KAA members and $40 for non-members. The deadline to sign up for the Portrait Workshop is April 16th. Class sizes for both workshops are limited.

Highway Patrol accepting applications for troopers
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, a leading law enforcement agency, is now accepting applications for troopers. The Patrol encourages qualified law enforcement professionals to apply and will conduct testing at nine locations throughout Missouri. Those who successfully complete the testing process will be eligible to advance in the selection process for the 125th (Accelerated) Recruit Class. The application deadline is July 1, 2025. The Accelerated Academy is scheduled for 15 weeks. Training will begin on January 5, 2026, and conclude with graduation on April 17, 2026.
Truman offices moving into Kirk Building
Truman State says several offices around campus are now operating from their new location in Kirk Building. Since 2022, Truman has been transforming Kirk into a Student Success Center with a collaborative service model. Multiple departments will work in conjunction to assist students. The Student Success Center will be comprised of: the Career Center; the Student Health Center; Counseling Services; Student Access and Disability Services; the Center for Academic Excellence; the Communication Lab; and the Writing Center. In addition to housing the Student Success Center, Kirk will also eventually be used to provide resources to the community, including workforce development outreach, rural telehealth counseling and academic outreach workshops. All the services in Kirk Building are scheduled to be online this fall. All offices are moved into Kirk Building, with the exception of the Center for Academic Excellence and Tutoring Services, which are expected to move in mid-April and will be located on the second floor. Route D set to close
Weather permitting, March 26, Route D in Ralls County is scheduled to close from Missouri Route 19 to Route B south of Perry for a bridge painting project, located over Lick Creek, 1.2 miles west of Missouri Route 19. All work on this bridge is expected to be completed by early April. On April 1, crews will then move to begin painting on the bridge on Pike County Route D/FF over U.S. 61 near Eolia. Traffic impacts at the interchange will include temporary shoulder closures on Route D and U.S. Route 61 (northbound and southbound) will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction until the project is complete.
Sully Sullenberger coming to Truman in April
Ambassador “Sully” Sullenberger, Captain of US Airways Flight 1549, also known as the “Miracle on the Hudson,” will be Truman’s Holman Family Distinguished Speaker in April. Sullenberger became internationally renowned on Jan. 15, 2009, when he and his crew safely guided their disabled jetliner to an emergency water landing in New York City’s frigid Hudson River. All 155 aboard survived. Sullenberger and his crew received international acclaim for their actions, including the passage of a Congressional resolution recognizing their bravery. Sullenberger was ranked second in TIME’s “Top 100 Most Influential Heroes and Icons of 2009.” Sullenberger’s presentation will take place at 7 p.m. April 11 in Baldwin Hall Auditorium. Tickets are free and will be available now.
Road work planned for Route 36
MoDot says weather permitting, as early as March 26, pavement improvements are scheduled to begin on 18 miles of westbound U.S. Route 36 in Marion and Ralls counties, from 0.7 mile west of U.S. Route 61 at Hannibal to 0.5 mile west of Route Z near Monroe City. This work includes pavement repairs, shoulder improvements, resurfacing and diamond grinding. Initial work will include pavement repairs between 0.9 mile east of Route H to Route Z at Monroe City. In early April, overnight ramp closures are scheduled for the westbound U.S. 36 ramps at the Route Z interchange in Monroe City. The closures will occur between 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Kirksville Police collecting peanut butter for food pantry
The Kirksville Police Department is participating in Northeast Regional Medical Center’s “Jars of Love” peanut butter drive! We will be collecting jars of peanut butter to donate to The Food Pantry of Adair County. If you would like to donate, you can drop off jars of peanut butter during normal business hours (8 AM to 5 PM, Monday-Friday). Kirksville Police will also be present at the “Fill the Truck Event” in the Hy-Vee parking lot between 11 AM and 2 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Randolph County road work begins March 24th
MoDot says Weather permitting, a resurfacing project located on Route DD in Randolph County, from U.S. Route 24 in Moberly to the end of state maintenance, is expected to begin March 24, 2025.
The $2.4M contract, awarded last year to Capital Paving & Construction, LLC of Columbia, Missouri, includes additional resurfacing projects in Randolph County that are scheduled to begin immediately following the completion of Route DD. All work is scheduled to be completed by mid-May.
Route D – from Route C near Huntsville to Route BB
Route BB – from Missouri Route 3 to Route A near Moberly
Traffic will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction at the location where crews are actively working.
Road work planned on Route J
Weather permitting, March 24, Shelby County Route J is scheduled to close over Tiger Fork, 0.6 mile west of Route W near Bethel, as work begins on a bridge replacement project estimated to be completed by late May. Bleigh Construction Company was awarded the contract last month in the amount of $860,516. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.
