Pools set to close

Kirksville Parks and Rec reminds, this is the last week to soak up the sun and make a big splash at the outdoor water park and neighborhood wading pools. August 20th is the closing date.

Council has meetings tonight

The Kirksville City Council has an executive session and study session for tonight. The executive session starts at 530pm and is for the purposes of litigation and personnel. The study session will begin immediately following the executive session in Council Chambers. The agenda includes the Kirksville Crosswalk Study, the tax levy, Main Street Kirksville update, proposed capital purchases, and KBSL Season review.

Mill and overlay work continues

The City of Kirksville says Mill and overlay work on East Hamilton Street, from Jamison Street to South Cottage Grove Avenue, will continue into this week. The street will be closed to through traffic on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, for paving.

GOVERNOR SIGNS 31 BILLS

Accordint to moberlymonitor.com., Missouri Governor Mike Parson has officially given final approval to 31 bills from this year’s legislative session by signing off on a variety of legislation ranging from tax relief for senior citizens, tax credits to attract the entertainment industry, extending post-partum coverage, empowering Missourians living with disabilities by preventing the loss of government benefits, removing financial barriers in the adoption process, combatting the opioid epidemic, simplifying our vehicle sales tax, increasing cybersecurity to protect Missourians from stalking, and ensuring Missourians are covered for life-saving exams, while also not being subjected to unauthorized medical exams.

MINI MUD MILE

The 4th annual Kids Mini Mud Mile! Children ages 3-15 can embark on a 1-mile mud-filled obstacle adventure right here in Kirksville! The run will take place Saturday, August 12th, 2023 at the North Park Sports Complex.

COUNTRY DANCE

Kirksville Parks and Recreation is partnering with NEMO Country Dance Club and the Kirksville Loyal Order of Moose Lodge to bring you the 2023 Country Fall Dance. The event will take place at the Kirksville Moose Lodge from 8-11pm on Friday, September 8, with live music performed by The Silverado Band.

TINY TIKES SOCCER

The City of Kirksville’s Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for the Tiny Tykes Soccer program. Tiny Tykes Soccer is an exciting and engaging four-week program, for children ages 3 through 5, that teaches soccer using play-based learning.

Tiny Tykes Soccer will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting September 19, 2023. Registrants will choose either a 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm session, or a 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm session when registering online at parks.kirksvillecity.com or in person at the Kirksville Aquatic Center, 801 E. Mill St.

Truman is one of 10 public schools chosen in the “Fiske Guide to Colleges” Best Buys of 2024.

For 40 years, the “Fiske Guide to Colleges” has chosen a select group of schools based on academic quality and affordability for its best buy list. The 2024 guide includes 20 schools – 10 public and 10 private – it deems as best buys. These are schools that, in the judgement of the editors, offer “outstanding educational value as determined by academic quality in relation to the net cost of attendance.”
