The Adair County Health Department is offering services for infants and children they want you to know about.

They can inspect your child’s car set to make sure it’s installed properly. And qualifying families can get a free safety seat.

The department also has an nteresting new gadget. It’s like a breath-a-lyzer but it tracks carbon monoxide levels in the blood. In pregnant women, the device will measure lung function for both the mother as well as the baby. Information that is helpful if a mom-to-be smokes…and would like to quite.

Gas Prices Keep Inching Up

Gas prices up another penny in Adair county in the last three days. Average locally is $3.45 a gallon. Up 9-cents here in just over a week. Knox county even higher at $3.62 a gallon. AAA says the statewide average is $3.35 a gallon — up 32-cents in a month.

Rail Crossing Work To Close Macon County Road

Road work you should know about. On May 1-2, that’s next Monday and Tuesday — Macon County Route 149 will close between East Santa Fe and East Valley Street for work on the Railroad crossing. Closing at 7 Monday morning and they hope to re-open Tuesday afternoon at five.

Road Closed Sullivan County

Road work in Sullivan county. Route T is closed at the East Locust Creek Bridge, south of Milan. The bridge has a beam that’s worn out. Crews have to figure out a plan of action — so drivers need to find a different route. The bridge was built back in 1949.

Gas Prices Keep Climbing

Gas prices in Missouri up 3-cents in the past week in Missouri. Statewide average is 3.37 a gallon. Up 34 cents in a month. In Adair county, prices up 8-cents a gallon in the past week…now running $3.44 a gallon. Sullivan county jumped to $3.66 a gallon.

Cyber Attack Hits Truman State

Truman State continues dealing with a cyber attack that infected its computer system with a virus. The school’s IT staff hopes to have internet available later Tuesday. And onnline classes were canceled Tuesday.

It’s a mess for employees who can’t use their work stations. For students, they can’t use computers issued by Truman that are Windows based. The school has not said if any personal student data has been breached in this cyber attack.

Toddler Rescued In Submerged Pick-Up

In Linn county, a four year old boy got into a pick-up truck yesterday, managed to put it gear and the truck rolled into a pond. A dive team went into the water to rescued the boy. He was flown to Children’s Hospital in Kansas City in serious condition.

It happened just south of Bucklin.

Know When To Hold’em — Poker Tournament Helps United Way

A winning poker hand for the local United Way. They raised $2,680 from the Texas Hold’em tournament. 40 players participated. The United Way of Northeast Missouri provides funds for 11 not for profit agencies from the 4-H Council, to the Adair County Family YMCA, and the Salvation Army.

Local 5th Graders Get Big Money For Playground

Money for a new playground at Ray Miller Elementary school in Kirksville. A 5th grade class won $50,000 to upgrade the playground. The money from Casey’s convenience stores — part of a promotion called Cash for Classrooms.

So the school gets new playground equipment plus sprucing up old equipment. Work to be done by August.

Break-In Suspect Nabbed

In LaPlata, police say a 32 year old man has admitted breaking into homes in recent weeks.

Cody Williams was arrested after a break-in Tuesday, he was seen on a neighbor’s security camera. Police say he admitted stealing a playstation and then trying to sell it on Facebook Market. Police believe Williams and four other people they’ve previously arrested could be connected to a string of break-ins and thefts.
