Covid Cases Climb; Vaccine Clinic For Kids

Covid count: The Adair County Health Department reorts 13 new cases of covid since Tuesday. So, that means f7 active cases at the moment. The new cases include a five year old girl and a 94 year old woman. A 13 year old boy also with the virus. As you plan your holiday travel, the health department recommends not going to areas that have high infection rates.

Kids ages 5-to-11 can get the covid vaccine today from 3 to 5:30 at the Adair county health department. Call to reserve a spot. All participants will get a $50 gift card for both the first dose and second dose

An Increase In Local Covid Cases

An uptick in covid-cases in Adair county. 43 active cases reported last Friday and about 63% of new cases in the past week are people 30 and younger. Yesterday, another 16 cases added — the youngest, a 17 year old girl. Five of the 16 cases — or 30% — are in people who have taken the vaccine.

St. Louis County has also seen an increase in covid cases — with a jump of more than 40% in a week. So the county is back above the federal government’s “high” threshold for cases of the virus. The county administrator says the increase in cases there may have come from Halloween parties.

Boil Water Advisories In Novinger And Moberly

Boil the water. That’s the word for some residents in Novinger who live west of Highway 149 and who use city water. The order in effect until 6 o’clock Wednesday evening.

And Moberly also has a boil advisory in effect until 6 o’clock Wednesday evening. The area impacted is Riley Trailer Park – Highway JJ. Before using water…it should be boiled 3 minutes.

Know When To Fold’em. United Way Poker Tournament

If you want to play poker for charity, the United Way of Northeast Missouri will be dealing the cards.

They’re having a Texas Hold’em tournament at the Dukum Inn on December 9th. They tried it back in May and it was a success, so they’re doing it again. First place prize 500 bucks. 250 for 2nd and 100 bucks for third. The United Way provides funding for 11 local charities.

Week-End Accidents: Teen Charged With Drunk While Intoxicated

A teenage driver is charged with drunk driving after a wreck Friday morning about 2:30. The patrol says 18 year old Floyd Miller crossed the center line, ran off the side of the road and flipped his Ford pick-up on Missouri 6 near Hurdland. He was check out at the hospital, but not seriously hurt.

And a 33 year old woman was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after a mid-morning wreck Saturday on route M near Tiplett. Dougie Bruce ran of the road…hit a guard rail…then drove down an embankment. She was not buckled in and was thrown out of the vehicle. Bruce was taken by chopper to University hospital in Columbia.

Turning Big Box Stores Into Storage Facilities.

Kirksville’s planning and zoning board heard this week that a developer is interested in the strip mall where Penny’s and Gordman’s used to be. But the developer wants to turn the buildings into self-storage units. City council would have to change zoning to allow the storage business. And the planning commission may vote on that next month

92 Year Old Driver Hurt In Wreck

Two drivers suffered moderate injuries in a rear-end crash yesterday morning on route JJ near Huntsville. The patrol says a 92 year old woman, Mary Galegor, rear ended a Nissan truck that was driven by 47 yr old Cory Weathers of Moberly.

Masking Continues At Truman State

Masking-up at Truman state. The University mask policy will continue until the end of the fall semester. They will take a look at the mask policy again before the start of the spring semester. As of now, 57% of all Truman students are fully vaccinated, while 63% of dorm students are fully vaccinated and among the staff, 72% of all employees have been vaccinated.

Covid On The Rise In Adair County

The Adair County health dept says covid cases are going up. Nine new cases confirmed in the county
yesterday — meaning 38 active cases right now…the highest since Oct. 8th.

The nine newly confirmed cases involve females ages 3, 70 and 84, and males ages 7, 17, 24, 25, 61 and 62. Two cases are in the K-12 schools, one is in local universities, and three are breakthrough infections in people who are vaxxed.

From Oct. 30 through Nov. 5, 69% of the cases are in people 30 and younger, 52% were females and 48% were males. One-third were in the K-12 schools. Adair County is in the substantial category when it comes to transmission of COVID-19.

Infant Among The Newest Covid Cases In Adair County

Covid-count in Adair County: Seven new cases reported Tuesday. That brings the total of active cases at the moment to 30. The youngest to get the virus in this latest group — a 3 month old boy — as well as a 2 year old boy and a 7 year old boy. The oldest with the virus, an 80 year old man. Since the pandemic started, there’s been 3,683 cases in the county, and nearly all recovered.

The Adair County Health Department recommends that all county residents ages 12 and older get vaccinated against COVID-19 and the Delta variant. Though two of the current cases involve people who got the virus even fully vaccinated.
