COVID Updates for NEMO

Another seven new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Friday in Adair County, bringing the overall case count to 3,554. There are 45 active cases and 3,475 people who have left isolation. The new cases were all females, ages 20, 21, 34, 43, 61, 66 and 72. Two are in the higher education sector and two are breakthrough cases.

Elsewhere in Northeast Missouri, Sullivan County added 4 new cases on Friday. That county has a total of one thousand one hundred and ninety-none, with 7 active cases. The new positive cases were community related. The Putnam County Health Department reported 12 additional cases of COVID-19 on Friday since their last report on September 27th. Of the 12 cases 9 were close contacts/household contacts of COVID-19. One case was a fully vaccinated individual.

MSHP Advises Drivers to be on the Lookout for Deer Near Roadways

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety remind drivers that deer are more likely to be moving along roads and highways this time of year. One deer strike occurred every 2.4 hours last year in the state. Drivers are reminded to pay attention and to always wear seatbelts. If a deer is struck, move the vehicle to a safe location and dial 9-1-1.

2 More Curbside Flu Vaccine Clinics Scheduled

The Adair County Health Department vaccinated 955 residents Wednesday at the NEMO Fairgrounds with the regular and high-dose annual flu vaccines. Two additional curbside flu vaccines are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 13 and
Friday, Oct.15 at 1001 S. Jamison Street from 2 to 4 p.m. both days. No registration is required for flu vaccines, and shots are free for Adair County residents.

Harper Waves Formal Arraignment

A Macon man accused of over 100 sex crimes waved formal arraignment during a court appearance in Linn County this week. 54-year-old Kenneth Harper has pled not guilty to child sex crimes that allegedly occurred from 1996 to 2010. His case is set for setting or disposition on January 4th.

New COVID-19 Cases

The Adair County Health Department has confirmed 15 new cases of COVID-19
since Monday. This three-day increase brings the overall case count to 3,547 with 40 active cases and 3,473 people who have left isolation. New cases involve females ages 7, 22, 28, 43, 47, 49 and 54. Males are ages 9, 10, two age 30, 37, 56, 71 and 81. Four reside at addresses with at least one other confirmed case. Three are in the K-12 schools sector and one is a breakthrough case.

Marching Band and Field Show Competition in Kahoka Saturday

The 30th Annual Parade of Champions marching band and field show competition, is being held tomorrow in Kahoka. There are 25 bands in the parade competition and 16 bands for the field show. You can watch the bands on the parade route which will go along the west side of the square, turn on to Main Street, and continue east to the High School. The parade starts at 2PM. The field show competition will take place at the Clark County High School Activity Field starting at 5:00 pm. There is an admission fee for the field show.

Curbside Vaccine Event Today

The Adair County Health Department is hosting a curbside vaccine event today for COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. It’s from 1 to 3:30 p.m at their offices on South Jamison Street. Call 660-665-8491 to register. First, second, and third doses of the vaccine will be administered, along with boosters for those who received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months prior to the date you register for a booster. COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are free, but you must bring proof of prior vaccination if you are receiving your second or third dose or a booster. COVID-19 vaccine consent forms are also required. You can access it from the Health Department website by clicking on “Forms” in the upper right corner of the home page and printing out the form. They will be available at the curbside vaccine clinic.

Schuyler County Receives Rating of Good in Audit from Auditor Galloway

State Auditor Nicole Galloway released her regularly scheduled audit of Schuyler County this week. The county received an overall rating of “good” in the audit, which matches the “good” rating received by the county in a 2015 audit. Galloway said her audit recommended several areas for improvement that county government officials have shown a willingness to implement to better ensure efficiency and accountability for its taxpayers. Those recommendations include that the county develop an electronic communications records retention policy to comply with state law and to improve electronic data security measures in two county offices. Auditors also recommended that the Sheriff develop a better inventory control system for seized property, which was an area of concern auditors identified in the 2015 audit.

Crash Involving ATV Leaves 1 Injured

A person on an ATV was injured in a crash in Putnam County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report, the ATV, was traveling on on Highway 139, about three miles southeast of Powersville yesterday morning. The ATV, driven by 67-year-old Dale Davis, stopped in the roadway, and was struck in the rear by a transit van. Davis suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Putnam County Ambulance to a hospital.
