The City of Milan is pleased to announce that it has successfully secured a Risk Management Grant in the amount of $2,250 through the Missouri Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (MIRMA)’s Risk Management Awards Program. This funding will be used to purchase new tasers for the Milan Police Department, enhancing officer safety and improving overall public safety in the community. The Risk Management Grants are part of MIRMA’s commitment to supporting municipalities in mitigating potential risks and improving safety measures. The grant funds will go toward replacing outdated equipment and ensuring that Milan’s police officers are equipped with the latest non-lethal tools to effectively handle various situations, ensuring both officer and community safety. The Milan Police Department is dedicated to serving and protecting the residents of Milan, and the new equipment will further enhance its ability to carry out this mission effectively. The city will work closely with the police department to ensure the seamless integration of the new tasers into daily operations.

MoDot says Individuals are invited to a public informational meeting that will share information about a future project that will include resurfacing, signal work and sidewalk improvements at various locations in Mexico in Audrain County. The public meeting is planned for Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Audrain County Courthouse at 101 N. Jefferson Street in Mexico, Missouri. Details about the project, including a project schedule, will be shared at the meeting through displays and discussions with Missouri Department of Transportation engineers. The meeting is open-house style, so there will be no formal presentation; attendees can attend anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The City of Kirksville would like to make residents aware of an upcoming street closure for a private contractor. South Osteopathy Street, from West Washington Street to West Scott Street, will be closed on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please use alternate routes during this time and pay attention to signage and personnel in the area.

William Matthew Middle School Principal Brandi VanDelft and the Kirksville R-III School Board are pleased to announce that Brian Mayer has been named WMMS Assistant Principal for the 2025-26 school year. Mr. Mayer currently teaches strength and conditioning physical education courses, as well as health classes, at Kirksville High School. He will begin his new role this summer in preparation for the upcoming school year.

MoDot says Route 136 will be closed at varying locations between north Route 139 and Route U, April 21-25, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily. Motorists will need to use an alternate route. All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

The Kirksville Fire and Police Departments will be conducting training at an acquired structure at 1302 N. Baltimore St. during the weeks of April 14 and 21, 2025. Emergency vehicles will be staged on Queens Road adjacent to the structure and in the parking lot of 1220 N. Baltimore St. Training will include fire apparatus operations, fire suppression operations, and law enforcement tactical training that will include theatrical smoke. We mention this so the public knows there is no ongoing emergency at this address. Please use caution when driving in the area during the training exercises. This vital training helps ensure first responders are properly prepared to act in these kinds of scenarios.

The City of Kirksville wants to inform residents that water main replacement will begin on South Jamison Street, between East Patterson Street and East Normal Street, on April 14, 2025. As a result, South Jamison Street will be reduced to one lane in this area between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm while work is underway. The street will reopen during the evening, overnight, and early morning hours. Construction is expected to take approximately four weeks, depending on the weather. The traveling public is encouraged to use caution, drive slowly through work areas, and utilize alternate routes

One person was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash yesterday morning in Knox county. The Highway Patrol s ays a 46 year old man was driving a Dodge Ram on Missouri 15, four miles south of Edina, when he went off the left side of the road, and hit a culvert. The vehicle went airborne and overturned multiple times. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted Capital Paving & Construction, LLC to replace the decks of two bridges in Worth County and one in Gentry County. The East Fork Grand River Bridge on Worth County Route M is the first bridge scheduled for a deck replacement beginning Monday, April 21. Traffic Impacts: During construction, Route M will be closed at the East Fork Grand River Bridge. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route during the closure. The East Fork Grand River Bridge is expected to reopen by the end of July 2025. Once construction is complete, crews will begin work on the Middle Creek Fork Grand Bridge on Worth County Route 169 and the Zounds Creek Bridge on Gentry County Route B.

The Kirksville Arts Association says, have you stopped by the Sue Ross Arts Center and viewed the Kirksville High School Art Exhibit? This community has many very talented young artists. The exhibit will be closing his Thursday. A reception will be held at the arts center from 5:30 to 6:30 this Thursday, it is open to the public. There is no charge to visit the exhibit. Opening next Tuesday is the Regional High School Showcase. The arts center is open weekdays 11am to 4 pm.
