One person was seriously injured in a single-vehicle wreck that happened in Marion County last night. The Highway Patrol says 35 year old Adam Mast of Durham was driving a Yamaha ATV on private property on County Road 297 near Durham, when she lost control, and the vehicle overturned. A passenger, 47 year old Diana Mast of Durham, was taken by helicopter to University Hospital Columbia. She was not wearing a safety device.

Curious about the status of the City of Kirksville’s tiny home subdivision project? If you’ve been by the area on West Gardner Street, you’ll notice a pretty big difference.
– City staff will begin preparing the site for the School District to work on.
– The subdivision plat will be submitted to Planning and Zoning next week. If recommended there, it will go to the City Council.
– The School District plans to pour the foundations in July, then have construction trades students begin work when the school year begins this fall.

The Kirksville Aquatic Center Water Park will be closed on Monday, June 24, 2024. The indoor pool will be open for regular hours during the closure, so residents still have a great option to swim on that day. This closure is to repair the family slide pad. The Parks and Recreation Department is excited to have this family-favorite feature back in use beginning on Tuesday, June 25. That day is also a 2-for-1 Tuesday, where one free admission is granted with one paid admission. So, bring a friend and enjoy a great day. Kirksville Police Department says Firework sales may have begun, but fireworks may only be used within the City from June 30 to July 5, between the hours of 9:00 am and 11:00 pm, on your own property. However, if a complaint is received and verified by the Kirksville Police Department as a disturbance of the peace, discharging shall immediately cease. Those complaints can be made on the non-emergency line at 660.665.5621. Please use caution when lighting fireworks to prevent injuries and property damage

The Street Maintenance Division of the City of Kirksville’s Public Works Department will begin mill and overlay work on North Elson Street, from the West Potter Avenue intersection south 250 feet, starting Monday, June 24, 2024. The street will have alternating traffic lanes during construction. The project should be completed on June 25, depending on the weather.

Governor Mike Parson kicked off the first project within Missouri’s Improve I-70 Program with an official groundbreaking ceremony in Columbia. Governor Parson joined federal, state, and local elected officials along with members of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission and its Design-Build contractor team to break ground on Project #1: Columbia to Kingdom City. Missouri’s FY2024 budget from the General Assembly, signed into law by Governor Parson, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue for the costs to build a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.

The City of Kirksville would like to make residents aware of planned street work on a section of East Washington Street.
Starting the week of June 17, 2024, Stanton Contracting will begin work on East Washington Street, from North Baltimore Street to North Cottage Grove Street, to add driveway approaches and curbing. Once that work is completed, the City will repair the street.
This work will cause travel difficulties and limited parking during the construction process. Please limit any unnecessary travel in the area. No parking on the right-of-way or street will be allowed during construction.
Stanton Contracting will begin its work near Baltimore Street and progress eastward. That construction will take roughly 30 days.

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the results of the Driver and Vehicle Safety Division’s 2024 annual school bus inspection program. Missouri’s 2024 school bus inspection results are as follows:
School buses rated as “approved” upon initial inspection — 10,055
School buses rated as “defective” upon initial inspection — 895
School buses rated as “out-of-service” upon initial inspection — 410
Buses with identified defective components require repair within 10 days. Buses placed out-of-service require correction of the component(s), and reinspection and a return to service by Patrol personnel prior to further usage in transporting passengers. A total of 262 Missouri school districts earned the Patrol’s Total Fleet Excellence award for 2024. During the 2024-2025 school year, 4,931 buses in these award-winning fleets are eligible to display the Patrol’s Total Fleet Excellence sticker in the lower corner of the first window on the passenger entry side of the bus.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control announces the arrest of Jessica A. Chase, 45, of Paris, Missouri. Chase was arrested on June 10, 2024, for six counts of financial exploitation of an elder/disabled person, six counts of forgery, seven counts of filing false documents, 12 counts of felony stealing, two counts of fraudulent use of a credit/debit device, and one count of money laundering. Chase’s arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Troop B Criminal Investigations Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control. On February 15, 2024, Monroe County Sheriff Joe Colston requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control investigate allegations of theft committed by a former Monroe County elected official, Jessica Chase. At the conclusion of an exhaustive investigation, on June 10, 2024, Chase was arrested by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol for an active Monroe County arrest warrant. This arrest followed formal charges being issued by the Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney. Chase is currently being held in the Monroe County Jail, on a $150,000.00 cash only bond.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages the public to discover nature during frogging season. Beginning June 30 at sunset through Oct. 31, those with a fishing permit or small-game hunting permit may go frogging for bullfrogs and green frogs. The daily limit is eight frogs of both species combined and the possession limit is 16 frogs of both species combined. Only the daily limit may be possessed on waters and bank of waters where frogging. MDC notes that daily limits end at midnight. Froggers who catch their daily limits before midnight and want to return for more frogging after midnight must remove the daily limit of previously caught frogs from the waters or banks before returning.
