Hannibal crash leaves serious injuries

Serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Hannibal on Sunday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 40 year old Tyson Hubbard was driving a Chevy 1500 truck southbound on Warren Barrett Drive at Bear Creek, when he crossed the center line, and hit a Nissan Rogue head-on. The driver of the rogue, 64 year old Michael Bradley, was seriously hurt and was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital. Hubbard also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Imagination Library is open

The State Department of Education says all Missouri children under five years old are now able to register for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. There is no deadline to register. The Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by providing age-appropriate books each month to children free of charge. In order to receive books, a parent or guardian must register their child on the Imagination Library national website. Books will be mailed directly to the homes of registered children every month. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has already been available in some areas of the state thanks to the great work of the 57 local affiliates that distribute books to more than 17,000 Missouri children. Those children currently registered will be automatically enrolled in the new statewide program.

One dead in Marion County crash

A fatal crash in Marion County on Saturday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 79-year-old Clarence Morris of Quincy, Illinois, was driving a Mercury Montego northbound on Marion County Road 139, four miles south of Durham, when he suffered a medical event, ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned. Morris was pronounced dead at University Hospital.

Mayor declares National Hospice and Palliative Care Month

Mayor Zac Burden signed a proclamation recognizing November 2023 as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month in Kirksville. For more than 40 years nationally, hospice has provided comfort and dignity to millions of people, allowing them to spend their final months at home surrounded by loved ones. The hospice model involves an interdisciplinary, team-oriented approach to treatment, including expert medical care, quality symptom control, and comprehensive pain management as a foundation of care. Hospice of Northeast Missouri, a service of Hannibal Regional Health Systems, is a non-profit hospice whose sole focus is on quality of life for patients and their caregivers and is rated 5 Stars by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Road work set for Marion County

MoDot says Area travelers will begin to see activity as preparations are in place for preliminary work to begin on a bridge replacement project located on Missouri Route 79, over Bear Creek, Norfolk Southern Railroad and Warren Barrett Drive, 0.4 miles north of Route T in Hannibal in Marion County. Weather permitting, work will begin on November 15, including surveying, clearing and grubbing, the construction of a work pad and foundation inspection holes for the drilled shafts. While preliminary work will have no impacts to traffic, the closure of the Sodalis Nature Trail, within the project limits, will be necessary until the project is completed next Fall. Substantial work on the bridge replacement will begin later this year or early 2024.

Adair County doing transition to new 911 system

The Adair County Emergency Communications Center will be conducting the transition to newly installed Next-Generation 911 phone and radio systems today. This upgrade will lead to improved functionality for emergency communications. During this transition, 911 calls may be temporarily routed to Sullivan County 911, our backup center, for handling. Callers may experience some irregularities when calling the non-emergency numbers to the Adair County Emergency Communications Center during this transition. Please be patient during this time, and be sure to dial 911 if you have any need for urgent law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical assistance.
