Too many dogs at the animal shelter in Moberly. So for now, they’re not taking any more dogs until some adoptions take place. Or unitl some dogs are picked-up by their owners. The shelter said on social media that they cannot keep up with the calls or the care of the dogs. In total caring for 22 right now.

A knife fight — one man stabbed, another arrested. Happened about 2 o’clock Sunday morning around Osteopathy and Mill streets in Kirksville.

Police say two men got into a fight…one pulled a knife and stabbed a 21 year old — then cut another man.

Police say the attacker — 20 year old Shawn Dukes — was arrested after he was identified by witnesses. Dukes charged with assault — armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. The victim who was stabbed reported to be in stable condition.

You might say she is Kirksville’s chief cheerleader. Carolyn Chrisman — the head of Kirksville Regional Economic Development, or KREDI. Chrisman is stepping down on July 7th. She’s been executive director since 2012 — working to bring businesses and jobs to the area. She oversaw two expansion
projects, Kraft Heinz and Western’s Smokehouse.

She says looks forward to serving in other capacities in the future.

A Brookfield man is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl. 52 year old Russell Alan Pirkey is facing multiple felonies. He was locked up initially on $100,000 cash only bond.

He beat Marjorie DeGreef by one vote — she had 56 votes.

The State Patrol is charging a Moberly man with murder for causing a wreck last week.

Officers say that 47 year old Steven Garrett crossed the center line last Thursday on Route M. He plowed into another vehicle — killing Maya Stilwell.

She was pregnant. So Garrett is charged with two counts of 2nd degree murder.

A fatal crash on route M near Moberly. A car driven by 47 year old Steven Garrett drifted across the line and hit another car head-on that had three people inside — one passenger in that car died — 22 year old Maya Stillwell of Moberly. A two year old girl in the car had moderate injuries as did the driver, 23 year old Conar Maylee. The patrol says the driver who caused the wreck, 47 year old Steven Garrett also had moderate injuries.

And a fatal wreck in Kahoka yesterday afternoon. The patrol says that 48 year old Arlen Irvin was killed when he made a left turn in his pick-up truck and pulled into the path of another pick-up. Irvin was not wearing a seat-belt. The wreck happened on US 136 at Missouri 81. The driver of the other vehicle not injured.

If you mingled with some stars at the Pickers Festival in Macon last week-end — you may have been exposed to Covid.

The health department says that a prominent person at the event — who interacted with the pubic — has Covid and could have spread it. The department did not name the person — though we know that six people who starred in “Little House on the Prairie” were advertised as being there.

So if you were there mingling with the stars, keep an eye out for possible Covid symptoms, or take a test.
