Man On Probation — Charged With Murder

A violent criminal who got a break from a judge — is now charged with murder.

25 year old John Murray admitted shooting a man multiple times, three years ago in Unionville. At the time, a judge in Sullivan county decided that instead of 10 years in prison….Murray could be out on probation.

Now, Murray’s charged with murder near Kansas City, accused in the stabbing a 23 year old. He’s locked up on a million dollars bond.

All Aboard. Amtrak Make Over In LaPlata

Breathing new life into a very old building: the Amtrak Station in LaPlata.

The 125 year old building now has new windows and new brick, plus a new roof and more. Amtrak spent six million dollars on the project. LaPlata draws people from around the region, as a convenient spot to hop on Amtrak, in a train station that still has that historic feel, even though it’s been upgraded.

Voters Legalize Weed; But Can’t Toke Up Just Yet

Now that voters approved legalizing pot, many wonder when people in Missouri get to start using the stuff.

The amendment goes into effect on Dec. 8. But shops with weed will not be ready that soon.

The state Department of Health will allow shops that currently sell medical marijuana to transition to a recreational license and start selling to anyone 21 and older. But those transitions may not happen before February, depending on how long the department takes with the licensing process..

Drive-Up To See If You’re Sick

Drive-up testing for viruses. It’s flu season and this Friday there is free testing in Kirksville for four illnesses.

You can drive-up and be tested by nasal swab for two types of flu, as well as Covid and RSV.

The test event is from 1–6 this Friday on the Truman State University campus. You will receive results by email or phone the next day

Two Dead In Sunday Wreck

Two people were killed in a Sunday afternoon wreck in Chariton county on US 24.

The patrol says 57 year old Paul Busto of Clark crossed the center line in his Mustang — hitting an SUV head on. Clark died. Also killed, a woman who was a passenger in the SUV. She is identified as 27 year old Chevy Ingebritson of Colorado. The driver of the SUV, also from Colorado, was seriously hurt.

Ho-Ho-Ho Get Ready For Breakfast With Santa

It’s time to make plans for Breakfast with Santa. Tickets are now on sale for the yearly event.

This year, it’s being held at Mi Casa Restaurant, on South Baltimore. There’s a breakfast buffet, plus a visit from Santa. Tickets are $15 for ages 5 and up. Children 4 and under eat for free.

Week-End Wreck Injures Two In Linn County

Two people with moderate injuries in a wreck Saturday evening on US 136 in Linn county. The Patrol says 19 year old Kasey Jaidrian failed to yield and his truck was hit by an SUV. Jaidrian had moderate injuries and so did a passenger in the SUV — 46 year old Amy Frye of Kirksville. The SUV driver, a 70 year old woman, had only minor injuries.

Novinger With Big Shopping Plans For Nov. 19th
